It’s been good to receive so much feedback from those who have been using the daily call to prayer.  This is now the first weekly call to prayer.  You could print this out and keep it in your bible.  There is enough to pray through the week.    We will follow the same pattern – We will continue to look at the prayers of the Bible in the Psalms to guide us in prayer, and I will suggest a prayer of repentance and a prayer of thanksgiving.   We will have prayer points from the world, Australia, the search for a vaccine, the Church and personal.

Psalm. 57Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me, for in you I take refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed. 2 I cry out to God Most High, to God, who vindicates me. 3 He sends from heaven and saves me, rebuking those who hotly pursue me— God sends forth his love and his faithfulness. 4 I am in the midst of lions; I am forced to dwell among ravenous beasts— men whose teeth are spears and arrows, whose tongues are sharp swords. 5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth.

What a beautiful prayer to begin with.   We take refuge in the shadow of God’s wings.  He sends his love and faithfulness.  We respond by desiring to let his glory be over all the earth.  As it will be.

“The depths of misery are never beyond the depths of mercy.” (Sibbes)

Petition: Please join with us in praying for:

1.The World   – The number of confirmed cases is 11,367,343 with 532,691 deaths of those with Covid.  The US, Brazil, Russia and India are the countries with the most cases.  North and South America are still seeing exponential growth.  Be thankful that so far Africa seems to be the least affected.

2. Australia – now has had 8,449 with 104 deaths
ACT – 108 cases – 3 deaths
NSW – 3,419 – 49
NT – 30 – 0
QLD – 1,067 – 6
SA – 443 – 4
TAS – 228 – 13
VIC – 2,536 – 20
WA – 618 – 9

There are 30 people in hospital with 4 in intensive care.   2,713,435 tests have been carried out with 0.3% being positive.  The major concern this week is Victoria – the only state where there is significant community transmission.   A severe lockdown has been imposed in some areas of Melbourne.  Pray that by this time next week we will be reporting that the spread has been halted.
3. Vaccine and Cures – In Adelaide they have begun human trials on a vaccine known as Covax 19. Pray that this would be successful.

4. Church – Different churches, even within the same denomination, have different approaches to re-opening buildings and having public worship again.  Pray for wisdom, grace, patience, understanding and love.  May there be a spirit of love and boldness, rather than fear and timidity.

5.  Personaland Family – Pray for those who are separated from loved ones because of closed borders and lack of transport.  Give thanks for the technology that enables us to be in touch – but most of all may we often meet at the throne of grace.

A Prayer of Repentance:   O Lord our God, forgive us when we have looked inward and not to you; when we have feared, rather than trusted; when we see only our own needs and not the needs of others.  Give us better sight, stronger hearts and purer minds.  In Jesus name.  Amen.

A Prayer of Thanksgiving:  9I will praise you, Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies.11 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
let your glory be over all the earth. (Psalm 57:9-11)
