Read Romans 4

“He (Jesus) was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification”

I was once speaking in a bookstore and a non-Christian woman asked me a question about how I knew that God loved me personally.  After I explained about the Cross – “the Son of God loved me and gave himself for me”  (Galatians 2:20), she responded: “I’m not saying I believe that, but if it is true, it is the most wonderful thing I have ever heard”.  Indeed it is!  How great must our sins be that it took the death of Christ to remove them.   How certain our salvation is because Christ rose from the dead and nothing can now separate us from his love.   We pray with assurance.

Petition: Please join with us in praying for:

1.Australia –   After ten days with no community cases NSW now has a small number – mostly linked in one cluster.  NSW has been remarkably successful in limiting such outbreaks through its track and trace.  Pray that this would continue.   There has been a great deal of talk about finance this week – give thanks for the relative prosperity so much of Australia enjoys – especially Western Australia which, because of the price of iron ore, now has a budget surplus.  Pray that we would be generous in sharing what the Lord has given us.

2.  The World – Give thanks that the vice-presidential debate was much more civilised and helpful.  Pray for Mike Pence who is a committed believer and for his opponent Kamala Harris.  We give thanks that President Trump appears to have recovered.  Continue to remember the people of Hong Kong who are continuing to face suppression.  And pray for our Armenian brothers and sisters who face the threat of war with Turkish backed Azerjiban

A Song of Praise – Thanks to a sister who sent this thinking we would like it.  She was right.  This is a virtual choir singing My Hope is Built on Nothing Less than Jesus Blood and Righteousness…it is quite extraordinary and reminds us that Christ is the solid rock – all other ground is sinking sand!

Prayer:   Lord Jesus – how wonderful that you died for our sins and raised to life that we might be right with God.  What a blessed hope we have!  And a certain and sure hope.  We stand on You, the solid rock.   May it be that this crisis would draw many others to seek you and find you,  in your name, Amen.
