Psa. 35  10 My whole being will exclaim, “Who is like you, LORD? You rescue the poor from those too strong for them, the poor and needy from those who rob them.”

We are rightly concerned about the oppression of the poor and the disadvantaged.  But our concern is doomed to failure unless we recognise that the Lord is the refuge of the poor.  The best thing that can ever be done for those of us who are poor and oppressed is to be introduced to the one who can rescue us!

“To fall in love with God is the greatest romance; to seek him the greatest adventure; to find him, the greatest human achievement.” (Augustine)

A Prayer of Repentance:   O Lord, forgive us when we have discriminated against anyone – in thought, word or deed, because of the colour of their skin, their class or their social status.  Teach us to see all human beings as made in your image – and enable us to be part of a church where all the barriers are broken down,  In Jesus Name – Amen.

A Prayer of Thanksgiving:

May those who delight in my vindication shout for joy and gladness; may they always say, “The LORD be exalted, who delights in the well-being of his servant.” My tongue will proclaim your righteousness, your praises all day long (Psalm 35:27-28 )
